The Imperial Dragon & the Star 5

by Jodi Brunner, Master of Feng Shui

Feng Shui is an art which has its foundations in the characteristics of the 9 Stars. Each of these 9 Stars has a distinct personality. Each of the 9 Stars may be found in our buildings, in various locations based on the formula known as the Flying Stars.

Of these 9 Stars, the star number 5 is the one to be most aware of as it has a fearsome personality. The 9 Stars of the Luo Shu have their basic positions, number 5 is in the centre:

4 9 2
3 5 7
8 1 6

Number 5 is in the centre and is known as the 'Emperor'. The metaphor is that the Emperor sits on his throne in the centre and all his assistants sit around him.

Star 5 is the star with the most unpredictable nature that can brings ups and downs in life, unpredictable events, problems, disharmony, arguments and in severe cases, disaster.

In Feng Shui every building is different and it depends on the direction a building is facing, coupled with the age of a building, to determine where the star 5 is located.  Calculate the stars for your home using the Flying Stars Calculator below:

In the table above, the South of your house and the North of your house are indicated. To find the stars in the other 6 major directions, West will be to the right and East will be to the left on the table. To locate these directions in your home, use a compass to locate North-South, or easier still, stand in the centre of your home first thing in the morning and look where the sun's coming up, that will be the East; then mark the directions on a floorplan if you have one:

...or just go directly to the location of the Star 5 as below.

Once you know the formula, then search the nine 'boxes' to locate the number 5s:

The number 5 to the left is the Mountain Star 5

The number 5 to the right is the Water Star 5

The number 5 in the centre of the square is the Time Star 5.

To keep the Emperor happy, we can give him the colour yellow or gold, so you may hang your Imperial Dragon poster in the location of your Mountain Star 5.

Alternatively, the Annual Star 5 (not shown above) is another place to hang your Imperial Dragon poster.

In 2012, the Annual Star 5 is in the East South-East, so hang your Imperial Dragon poster in the East South-East of your home, for protection and good fortune in 2012 (Feb 4 2012 to Feb 4 2013).

Wishing you a happy, prosperous and fulfilling 2012!

If you don't have one already, you may purchase an Imperial Dragon poster.
